After a short winter break and a successful winter Red Squirrel Workshop in Montreal the 2006 season of field research is about to begin. McGill University graduate student Sarah Woods and her crew have now departed for the Yukon and will start trapping squirrels shortly. Sarah will be studying the winter energetics of red squirrels. In particular she will be measuring the insulative ability of red squirrel nests as well as the effects of weather on activity patterns in order to figure out just how the heck the squirrels manage to survive temperatures dropping below -40 while expending so little energy. Good luck Sarah.
